EXTERIOR
The exterior of this Spartan is mostly original and in pretty decent shape. It has riveted construction for long life and durability. It has aircraft grade aluminum that can be polished up to a mirror like shine.
Frame and A-frame. It has surface rust but all appears to be good and solid in all areas accessible for inspection.
Dents, scratches, and damage. It has a 6’ scratch on curb side of trailer between door and fender. Top front cap has several dents. Bottom wraps have your typical dents and dings. Otherwise this trailer has a pretty decent exterior skin.
Entry door. It has the original aluminum front entry door, which has the cool porthole style window. This door has a small cut and some small dings above the lock but otherwise it is in good condition. It has the original safety lock, which is complete and in working order but has no keys. It has the original aluminum rear entry door with the cool porthole style window. This door has a small scratch about 24 inches from bottom but otherwise is in very good condition. It also has the original safety lock brand, which is in working condition but the exterior handle is not original. There are also no keys for this door.
Step. It has the original front aluminum slide out step, which is in decent condition but it does have a small tear. The rear door has the original step brackets but the original step is missing. However there is an aftermarket step inside the trailer loose.
Front hoist. Yes, but it does not work and needs replaced.
Hitch coupler. Yes, it has an old hitch coupler but I do not believe it is original. It is in working condition and does take a one and seven eights inch ball.
Roof and vents. It has the original aluminum roof with no apparent damage. The vents have had caulking around them.
Screen doors. It has the original wood screen doors, which are in fair condition. They do need re-screened and original wood has been painted white.
Exterior lights. The original tail lights are missing. It has the original license light the red lens is still good but the base is has surface rust. It has the original KD 540 marker lights with stainless steel bezels however two lenses are missing and the other two lenses are cracked.
Underbelly. Originally this had an insulation board type underbelly and most of the insulation board is gone. We normally tear off the original underbelly and undercoat the entire bottom of the trailer.
Windows, glass, and seals. It has the original Plexiglas windows in the front. Both curved Plexiglas windows are cracked or missing pieces. The center Plexiglas window has a star shaped crack. It has all of the original side slider windows. One slider window is missing the screen. The rear window is original. All windows have old seals, which should be replaced. There is no other cracked broken or missing glass.
INTERIOR
The interior of this trailer was remodeled probably back in the 70s but is due for a complete restoration.
Cabinet and closet doors. Most are still natural wood and in good shape. I did find a couple doors that were delaminating.
Catches. Yes.
Countertops. It has newer countertops, which are white with the gold flecks. The countertops are in decent condition.
Floor. This being a 1946 model it has the soybean base plastic floor. These floors did not rot because they were plastic but they did have a tendency to warp, which is the case with this trailer.
Floor covering. It has newer 12 inch tiles, which are in poor condition.
Table. No.
Unit sleeps. There is currently only one bed base in the unit but there is room for up to four people to sleep if a sofa bed was added.
Walls. It has both original birch paneling and newer paneling, which has been added but all paneling has either been painted or is in pretty bad shape and needs replaced.
RUNNING GEAR
It has the original running gear with the exception of new tires and wheels. We pulled the grease caps and there was adequate grease so we did not repack the wheelbearings. We towed the trailer almost 100 miles with no problems.
Axle and springs. It has the original axle with leaf spring suspension. It has surface rust but everything appears to be good and solid.
