EXTERIOR
This is a unrestored Spartan aluminum shell, and chassis.
The exterior of this trailer is built like an airplane with riveted construction for long life and durability. It is all aluminum with aluminum skin and aluminum interior studs. It has aircraft grade aluminum skin that can be polished up to a mirror like shine.
Frame and A-frame. Frame has surface rust with some pitting. There are some areas of the frame that will need replaced or repaired due to rust. The A-frame has been lengthened and reinforced. It looks to be good and solid, but isn’t the prettiest job I’ve seen. We towed this trailer approximately 500 miles with no issues.
Dents, scratches and damage. The worst damage on this trailer is on the driver side behind the wheel well. I’m guessing the trailer had a tire blowout and damaged the skin at that time. The good news is that it is just a flat aluminum panel, which is readily available. The top radius above the rear door also has some wrinkles. Most of the aluminum panels with compound curves are still in pretty decent shape. ( See photos)
Entry doors. Both of the entry doors are the original aluminum doors with riveted construction. They both have the cool porthole style window. Both doors are in pretty decent shape, but original locks are either missing, broke or incomplete. We do offer a retrofit lock kit for these doors on our website. Both doors will need new seals. No keys.
Screen door. Both screen doors are missing, but it looks like both of the original hinges are still there.
Steps. Front door has the original step brackets but actual step is missing. We do offer these reproduction steps on our website. The rear step is also missing. one of the brackets is there but bent back, the other bracket is missing.
Front hoist. No.
Hitch coupler. Has the original coupler which is in working order. But I would still replace it with a new style coupler.
Roof and vents. Has the original aluminum roof with riveted construction. It does not look like any tar or roof coating has ever been used on the roof, which is really good in my opinion. There is no apparent damage to the roof. One roof vent is missing, one roof vent is missing the lid and one roof vent looks to be complete. All these vents have steel bases which we recommend replacing. We have salvaged original Spartan vents with aluminum bases available for purchase.
Exterior lights. All of the original exterior lights are missing or needing replaced. Underbelly. Original underbelly material was an insulation type board, which is pretty well shot. We usually just tear what is left off then undercoat the bottom side of the floor.
Windows glass and seals. Front plexiglass windows are missing. We do offer new windows for the front on our website which are made from unbreakable polycarbonate. Has three of the four original sliding window and 2 of the sliding windows have screens. We have the glass for the rear quarter windows, they are in the trailer loose. The rear window has the steel Marvel brand window. The frame that holds the glass is shot and needs replaced. We do offer a solution for this made from aluminum. The rear Marvel window jam is steel with surface rust but still appears to be good and solid. Both of the windows in the entrance doors have good glass. Slider windows will need new channels which we do offer on our website.
INTERIOR
The entire interior has been removed down to the bare aluminum studs.
Floor. Floor is shot. All plywood will need replaced, This trailer could be rebuilt in whatever floorplan you desire or it could be converted for use in any number of commercial applications.
RUNNING GEAR
Has the original running gear with the exception of newer tires and wheels. Wheel bearings have been inspected and repacked and two new bearings were installed. Axle/Springs. Has the original axle with leaf Spring suspension. Has surface rust but everything appears to be good and solid.
Dry weight. Original spec. weight was 3700 pounds so I’m sure it’s a lot lighter than that now but don’t know the exact weight.
Hitch weight. Approximately 300 to 350 pounds.
Hitch ball size. 2 inch.
Hubcaps. No.
Spare tire. No.
Tire condition. Tires are like new with good tread and no weather checking. Tire size is ST225-75R 15 which is a special trailer tire. Tires are load range E. Tires are mounted on non-original, non-split rims with five lugs on 5 1/2 inch bolt circle. One lug bolt on passenger side is stripped out.
Brakes. This trailer originally had electric brakes, but the brake shoes and magnets have been removed.
Plug for exterior lights. No. You will need temporary tow lights to tow this trailer home safely. We can provide those if needed.
Porch light. No.

SPECIAL
Whether you are wanting a camper, a cargo trailer or a special commercial application, this trailer is a great starting point. I don’t believe you will find any camper/trailer built better than a Spartan.
