EXTERIOR
The exterior of this trailer is in pretty good shape. The skin is in really good shape with the exception of one small panel in the rear corner . Has the original doors, vents and windows which are all in good shape. Has aircraft grade aluminum which can be polished up to a mirror like shine. It is built like an airplane with riveted construction for long life and durability.
Frame and A frame. Has surface rust but all appears to be good and solid in areas assessable for inspection. The front A-frame has been extended because they are very short from the factory.
Dents scratches and damage. The worst damage is on the passenger side rear bottom panel which is dented and creased, other than that there is only very minor flaws. Overall the body is in good shape.
Entry door front. Has the original entry door which has the cool porthole style window. The door is in very good condition. It has the original Safety Lock brand lock but some of the parts are inside the trailer loose. Door will need new seals. No keys.
Entry door rear. Has the original rear door which is also in very good condition on the exterior. Has some bad oxidation with holes on door frame near the bottom of the door. Has the original Safety Lock and again some parts are in the trailer loose. Door will need new seals, no keys.
Screen door front. Has the original wood screen door which is in fair condition.
Screen door rear. Has the original wood screen door which is in poor condition.
Steps. Both the front and the rear door have the brackets for the step but they are bent up. There is only one step and it is in the trailer loose and it needs some work.
Front hoist. Has the original front hoist. Not sure if it works because I don’t have a crank handle.
Hitch coupler. Has the original hitch coupler with a 2 inch ball. Coupler is in working order.
Roof and vents. Roof has a few small dents and dings but overall appears to be in good shape. Has all the original aluminum vent covers. There has not been any tar or sealer put on the roof.
Exterior lights. Has vintage style teardrop marker lights. Newer tail and turn lights have been added in the rear, which are in working condition.
Underbelly. Has an all aluminum underbelly which is in pretty decent condition but does have some minor corrosion, dents and dings.
Windows. Has the original sliding window. All these windows are complete with interior trim, screens, handles and hardware with the exception of one handle is missing. Has the original Marvel brand steel window in the rear. These are normally rusted very badly but this one is still in pretty good condition. The front three plexiglass windows appear to be original and are in pretty rough shape. We do offer these new windows made of poly carbonate on our website. There is no broken, cracked or damaged glass. All windows will need new seals.
INTERIOR
The interior of this trailer is mostly original and complete. There are some birch panels with water damage but all panels are there to serve as patterns.
Cabinets and closet doors. Has all the original Birch cabinet and closet doors which are in pretty good shape. I do not see any delamination.
Catches. Yes, original.
Countertops. Has the original aluminum countertops which are still in decent condition floor.
Floor. Is solid in most walking areas but there are several soft spots around the outer perimeter of the trailer.
Floor covering. Has the original linoleum which is in poor condition.
Table. No.
Unit sleeps. Currently no beds in this trailer but room for up to four persons to sleep.
Walls. Has the original birch panels on walls and ceilings. There are several panels that have water damage and are delaminating and will need to be replaced. Birch paneling is still readily available.
RUNNING GEAR
Has the original running gear. Wheel bearings were repacked approximately five years ago. I towed the trailer over 250 miles with no issues.
Axles and springs. Has the original axles with leaf springs. These have surface rust but everything appears to be good and solid.
Dry weight. 3700#. Hitch ball height. Approximately 21 inches.
Safety chains. Yes.
Hitch weight. Approximately 440#. Hitch ball size. 2 inches.
Hubcaps. No. Spare tire. No
Tire condition. Has newer tires but they do have some very minor weather checking. They are 7:50 x 16 LT bias ply tires mounted on the original rims which have five lugs on 5 1/2 inch bolt circle.
FURNISHINGS
There are no mattresses, couches, curtains or freestanding furniture in this trailer.
ELECTRICAL
Has the original electrical system which has two automatic reset circuit breakers. All the lights and most the outlets do work in the trailer. Entire electrical system should be checked by a certified expert before use.
110 V lights. Yes. Most of the lights are original but it has a few newer ones.
12 V lights. No.
Brakes. Yes. Untested. Breakaway switch. No. Converter. No. Interior fans. No.
Plug for exterior lights. Yes, has newer seven way plug like most current trailer use.
Porch light. Yes, has the original bell type porch light.
LP SYSTEM
All of the original LP system is there with the exception of the LP pigtails going from the tanks to the regulator. Most of these items should be replace for safety reasons. Entire LP system and appliances should be checked by a certified expert before use.
Furnace. No.
Gas bottles. Yes. Has the original LP tanks. I’m not sure if these will be able to be recertified but would be worth checking into.
Gas lights. No. Gas regulator. Yes.
Range oven. Yes. Has the original A.B. brand 20 inch stove oven combo which looks to be complete with grates, knobs and racks. Oven is untested.
Refrigerator. Yes. Has the original Frigidaire 110 V refrigerator. We did plug it in and it did cool.
Water heater. No.
PLUMBING
Has most of the original plumbing but the fresh water line coming to the kitchen sink has been cut.
Freshwater tank. No.
Kitchen sink. Yes ,has the original 2 bowl aluminum sink which is in good condition.
Lavatory. Yes, has the original lavatory or shaving sink in the back bedroom area which is aluminum and in good condition.
Shower. No. Toilet. No. City water intake valve. No.
Water pump. No.
SPECIAL
This Vintage Spartan would be an excellent trailer for a complete restoration. It is mostly original, very complete and intact. This trailer comes with lots of the original paperwork. There are original brochures on the AB gas range, the Safety Lock trailer lock, the Robert Shaw oven heat control. Plus there is a 1948 Spartan Manor specifications sheet along with a 1948 Manor brochure.
