EXTERIOR
The exterior of this trailer is very original, very complete, very intact and very straight. It has riveted construction for long life and durability. It has aircraft grade aluminum that can be polished up to a mirror like shine.
Frame and A-frame. Has surface rust but everything appears to be good and solid. There are some extra brackets on the A-frame which were probably from a dolly from back in the day.
Dents scratches and damage. The worst dent is on the driver side rear at the very top. If you can’t live with this, the panel(s) could be removed and English wheeled to straighten them out. The bottom passenger side panel in the very rear also has some minor damage. Other than this, the exterior is in very nice straight condition.
Entry doors. Has the original aluminum entry doors with the cool porthole style windows. Have the original Safety Lock brand locks but the bases are cracked. No keys. This is a very common problem and I believe new bases are available. Exterior of doors are in excellent shape however there is severe oxidation (holes) in the framing of the doors. Doors will need new seals.
Screen Doors. Has the original wood screen door for the front which is in decent condition but the rear screen door is missing. We do have a Amish craftsman who reproduces these doors for us, available on our website.
Steps. Has the original aluminum slide out steps on both the front and the rear door. Both steps look to be in decent condition but the rear step slides out hard. It may just need to be lubricated.
Front hoist. Has the original Atwood brand front hoist which is in working condition. The original handle is missing. It still even has the original dolly wheel for the bottom of the jack.
Hitch coupler. Has the original hitch coupler which is in working condition and takes a 2 inch ball.
Roof and Vents. Has the original roof and vents with no obvious damage, however there is some tar on one side of the roof where there was an awning attached to it at one time. The three original aluminum roof vents are there but will need new operators, new seals and a little work.
Exterior lights. Has all of the original exterior lights. Has all four of the original KD 540 marker lights with glass lenses and stainless steel basils which are all in good shape. Has both of the original KD 520 round taillights with glass lenses and chrome bezels which are both in good shape. Has the original license light and bracket. The glass lens is still in good condition, the base and brackets are rusty but restorable. Temporary tow lights have been added in the rear so that it can be towed home safely.
Underbelly. The underbelly is approximately 75% intact. Normally the underbellies are shot on these Manors. They used a tarpaper type material which did not hold up real well.
Windows. Has all of the original windows. The front corner plexiglass windows have spider cracking and should be replaced. The center plexiglass window has minor scuffing and scratching from cleaning but is still in pretty decent condition. Has all of the original side slider windows which have all the hardware, screen frames and interior frames. Two windows are missing the rooster catches to hold windows shut. Has the original Marvel brand window in the rear which is steel and is still in very restorable condition. Has the original crank down windows which are complete with all handles, escutcheon plates and interior frames. Both windows do crank up and down but one window has a cracked glass. All windows will need new seals.
INTERIOR
The interior of this trailer is mostly original, very intact and in really nice shape for a 70+ year old un-restored trailer.
Cabinet and closet doors. Trailer has all the original cabinets, drawers and closets and all are in very good shape.
Catches. Yes, original in working condition
Countertops. Kitchen countertops are aluminum which are showing some wear. The countertop next to the stove has an approximate 2 inch area where there is oxidation with holes.
Floor. Floor is solid throughout.
Floor covering. Has the original linoleum in the living room which is in poor condition and it has carpet in the kitchen and rear bedroom.
Table. No. But it still does have the two original wood Leg-O-Matic folding chairs which are in nice condition.
Unit sleeps. Room for up to four persons.
Walls. Has original birch paneling on walls and ceiling. All paneling is in good condition with the exception of a few panels where the furnace originally was. Damage is visible in photos.Some of the baseboards are either missing or needing replaced.
RUNNING GEAR
Has the original running gear with the exception of newer tires and wheels.
Axles and springs. Has the original 4 inch drop axle with leaf springs. Axle has surface rust but everything appears to be good and solid. Wheel bearings have been inspected and re-packed. One hub has all brand new bearings and races. We towed this trailer over 900 miles with no issues.
Dry Weight. 3700 pounds.
Hitch ball height. Approximately 20 inches.
Safety chains. No.
Hitch weight. Approximately 440 pounds.
Hitch ball size. 2 inches
Hubcaps. No.
Spare tire. No.
Tire condition. Tires are like new with approximately 1500 miles on them. Has 7:00-15LT 10 ply tires mounted on new non split steel spoke wheels. Wheels are five lug on 5 1/2 inch bolt circle.
FURNISHINGS
Couch. Yes, has a 75 inch long click clack couch in the living room that folds down into a 75“ x 46“ bed and has a 72 inch click clack couch in the rear bedroom that folds into a 72“ x 46“ bed. Couches are dirty but still in good operating condition.
Curtains. No
ELECTRICAL
Has the original electrical system with a breaker box with two automatic reset circuit breakers. All lights and outlets are in working condition. Entire electrical system should be checked by a certified expert before use.
12 V lights. No.
Brakes. Has brakes on one side of axle but is missing from the other side. I do have brake parts available to get the brakes working on the other side.
Breakaway switch. No.
Converter. No.
Interior fans. Yes, there is one interior fan above the range but it is not currently in working condition.
Plug for exterior lights. Yes. Has a four-way flat plug like most boat trailer use.
Porch light. Yes. Has the original bell type porch light which is in good working condition.
RV battery. No.
LP SYSTEM
Most of the LP system is there but most these items should be replace for safety reasons anyway. Entire LP system and appliances should be checked by a certified expert before use.
Automatic changeover. Yes.
Furnace. No.
Gas bottles. No.
Gas lights. No.
Gas regulator. Yes.
Range oven. Yes. Has the original AB brand gas range with four burners on top and oven below. Stove appears to be complete with all grates, knobs and racks but has not been tested. Does have the cool original aluminum cover so when the stove is not being used it provides extra countertop space.
Refrigerator. Yes. Has a Well-Bilt brand electric refrigerator which is not original but is in good working condition.
Water heater. No.
PLUMBING
Has what appears to be most of the original plumbing. Water system was not tested. Plumbing system and all appliances should be checked by certified expert before use.
Freshwater tank. No.
Kitchen sink. Yes. Has the original 2 bowl aluminum sink. Sink shows some wear but is still in good usable condition.
Lavatory. No.
Sewer holding tank. No.
Shower. No.
Toilet. Yes. Somebody has added a porcelain toilet where the original shaving sink originally was.
Tub. No.
Waste holding tank. No.
SPECIAL
For an un-restored 1948 Spartan Manor, this trailer is far above average condition. Yes, It has some minor issues that will need addressed but overall it is a great candidate for restoration.
OTHER
We can do minor repairs to this trailer or other vintage trailers if you so desire.
