EXTERIOR
The exterior of this trailer is very nice, it is very original and very complete. It is built like an airplane with riveted construction for a long life and durability. It has aircraft grade aluminum which can be polished up to a mirror like shine.
Frame and A-frame. Has surface rust but everything appears to be good and solid in all areas accessible for inspection.
Compartment doors. No.
Dents scratches and damage. There is no major damage on the exterior of this trailer. However, there are small dents and dings.
Entry doors. It has the original aluminum entry doors with the cool port hole style windows. I believe these Spartan doors are the best quality doors of any trailer ever built. They are a full 3 inches thick in the center then taper down to an 1-3/4” thick at the top and bottom. Both of these doors have new retrofit lock kits and each lock has two keys. There is some oxidation on the interior door skins at the bottom with some small holes. The doors have some minor flaws but overall are in decent condition.
Screen doors. Has the original wood screen doors which are in fair condition.
Step front. Has the original slide out aluminum step which is in working condition.
Step rear. The brackets are there and are in good shape but the pull out step is missing.
Front hoist. It has a brand new Atwood brand sidewinder hoist.
Hitch coupler. Has a brand new hitch coupler which uses a 2 inch ball.
Roof and vents. Spartans use an all aluminum roof which is Cambered. A cambered roof is much better and stronger than a flat roof. It sheds water better and can hold up to heavier snow loads and winter climates. There is no apparent damage to the roof and it still does have all the original vents. The roof has been coated at one time with aluminum roof coating. On the driver side front of the trailer, the roof coating was applied on the upper radius. This looks really ugly but can be removed with chemicals and some elbow grease.
Exterior lights. Has all four of the original KD 540 brand marker lights with real glass lenses and stainless steel bezels. All the glass lenses appear to be in good condition. Has the original KD 520 tail lights which also have real glass lenses. The glass lenses appear to be in good condition. The bezels are in good condition but the chrome is flaking off. Original lights are un tested but temporary tow lights have been added in the rear so that the trailer can be towed home safely.
Underbelly. Has the original underbelly which used an insulation type board. Underbelly is approximately 60% intact. We normally tear off all this old material then spray the bottom of the trailer with a good quality automotive undercoating.
Windows. Has the original windows in the trailer. The front curved plexiglass windows are intact but do have some cracks and small holes. The front center window does not have any cracks or chips but is a little cloudy from age. All the original slider windows are there and all have the frames for the screens but one screen itself is missing. It has the original Marvel brand window in the rear but it has been sealed shut so I’m guessing there are issues there. Has the original roll down windows in the rear bedroom. The window with the good handle does roll down OK but the window with the broken handle I cannot get to roll down. There is no cracked or missing glass and all windows will need new seals and/or channels.
INTERIOR
The interior is very original and very intact. It has the original stove, the original refrigerator, and all the light fixtures are original. The interior of this trailer is very dirty so plan on doing some major cleaning.
Cabinet and closet doors. All are there and in good shape with the exception of one drawer is missing.
Catches. Original
Countertops. Has the original countertops which are either a tan basket weave pattern Formica or aluminum. Countertops are in decent condition for the age.
Floor. The floor is solid and most walking areas, but there are several soft spots around the perimeter of the trailer right next to the walls.
Floor covering. Has the original linoleum which is in poor condition.
Table. No
Unit sleeps. Currently there is only one bed in this trailer but there is room for up to four persons to sleep.
Walls. Has the original birch paneling there are several wall and ceiling panels that will need replaced.
RUNNING GEAR
Has the original running gear with the exception of new tires. Before we towed the trailer we remove the hubs and sprayed the bearings with WD-40. We towed the trailer over 400 miles with no problems.
Axles and springs. Original. Has surface rust but everything looks good and solid.
Dry weight. 4975#.
Hitch ball height. Approximately 18 inches.
Safety chains. No.
Hitch weight. Approximately 400 pounds.
Hitch ball size. 2 inch.
Hubcaps. No. Spare tire. No.
Tire condition. Has four brand new 8:00 x 16.5 bias tires with a 10 ply rating which are mounted on the original non-split rims which have eight lugs on 6 1/2 inch bolt circle.
FURNISHINGS
Bed mattress. Has one of the original twin beds in the rear which has an aluminum frame with wood exterior. Bed is 32 inches wide by 72 inches long.
Couch. Yes. Has a vintage click clack couch which is designed to fold down into a bed. This couch will need some work to get it into working condition.
Curtains. No.
Dinette cushions. No.
ELECTRICAL
Has the original electrical system which has two boxes with a total of four automatic reset circuit breakers. There is a new power supply on the exterior. Most lights and outlets do work. Entire electrical system and appliances should be check by a certified expert before use.
110 V lights. It has all of the original brass wall sconces and several of these have what I believe are the original shades. It also has the original fluorescent lights. Most lights are in working condition.
12 V lights. Yes, has one original 12 V light which is un-tested.
Brakes. Has brakes on both axles which are in working condition.
Breakaway switch. Yes, has brand new Tekonsha brand breakaway kit with battery.
Converter. No.
Interior fans. Has a fan above the stove which does work but is missing the ducting between the fan and the roof vent.
Plug for exterior lights. Yes, has brand new seven way plug. This is the same plug that most current RVs use.
Porch light. Yes. The porch light does work but we did not have the correct bulb for it.
RV battery. No.
LP SYSTEM
Most of the original LP system is missing however these items should be replaced for safety reasons anyway.
Entire LP system and appliances should be check by a certified expert before use.
Automatic changeover. No.
Furnace. No.
Gas bottles. No.
Gas lights. No.
Gas regulator. No.
Range oven. Yes. Has the original A.B. brand 20 inch gas stove with four burners on top and oven below. Stove has all grates and knobs but 1 grate is missing a piece. Untested.
Refrigerator. Yes. Has the original GM Frigidaire 110 V refrigerator but it is currently not in working condition.
Water heater. No.
PLUMBING
It looks like most of the plumbing has been removed from this trailer so plan on doing some re-plumbing.
Air pump. No.
Freshwater tank. No.
Kitchen sink. Yes has the original aluminum 2 bowl kitchen sink with aluminum counter and drainboard. Aluminum does show some wear but still appears to be in decent condition. The original kitchen faucet is still intact.
Sewer holding tank. No.
Shower. No. I’m not sure if this had a shower originally but there is room for a small shower/wet bath combo.
Lavatory. Yes. Has the original china the lavatory with the original faucet. Lavatory appears to be in good condition.
Sewer holding tank. No.
Shower. No. I’m not sure if this had a shower originally but there is room for a small shower/wet bath combo.
Toilet. No. But it did originally have one.
Tub. No.
Waste holding tank. No.
Water intake valve. No.
Water pump. No.
SPECIAL
This trailer is going to need a full restoration but it is a relatively rare trailer since you do not see very many Spartan 30 foot Mansions. This trailer has good bones and would make a great restoration candidate since it is so original.

This trailer comes with a new reproduction owner’s manual.
