EXTERIOR
The exterior of this vintage Spartan is very original, very intact and very complete. It has riveted construction for long life and durability. It has aircraft grade aluminum that can be polished up to a mirror light shine.
Frame. Frame has a couple of areas with some rust issues, but I don’t believe these areas are detrimental to towing the trailer. The frame does have surface rust but overall is in decent shape.
Dents, scratches and damage. The worst damage is on the passenger side rear radius of the trailer. We do have a salvaged radius from another Spartanettet, so that this area can be repaired. Other than that, there is only very minor dents, dings and damage. Entry doors. Has the original aluminum entry doors with riveted construction. Both doors are in decent condition but do have some very small oxidation holes down low. Doors are complete with Bargman handles and hardware and lock boxes. No keys. Door seals are old and should be replaced.
Screen doors. Rear door has the original wood screen door, which is in fair condition. Front screen door is missing.
Entry step. Front door has original brackets but original step is gone, but it does have a 2 step free-standing wooden step. The rear step has the original aluminum step but it’s going to need some work.
Front hoist . Has the original front hoist, has surface rust but is in working condition. Hitch Coupler. Has original cast-iron coupler. Has surface rust but is in working condition.
Roof. Roof appears to be in good shape. Has both of the original crank up roof vents. The original range hood vent, and furnace vent are missing but have been covered to keep water out.
Exterior lights. Has all four of the original KD 540 marker lights with glass lenses and stainless steel bezels. All lenses appear to be in good condition. Has the original Bargman Trail-Lite tail lights with glass lenses and stainless steel bezels. Glass lenses appear to be in good condition. Has the original Bargman license plate light and bracket which is in good condition but chrome is pitting and bracket is rusted. None of the original lights have been tested and temporary tow lights will need to be added in the rear to tow the trailer home safely.
Underbelly. Has the original underbelly which was like an insulation board. Underbelly is approximately 60% intact.
Windows. Has all the original windows complete with all hardware except for one window is missing a window lever, which I’m sure we can come up with one of those. All windows do have screens except the two rear Marvel windows. The two Marvel rear windows are steel which have surface rust but are still in good condition. There are a couple of windows with cracked glass. All windows will need new seals.
INTERIOR
The interior is mostly original, but it is missing the original appliances.
Cabinet and Closet Doors. Has the original birch cabinet and closet doors which are in decent condition.
Catches. Yes. Original
Countertops. Kitchen countertop has been replaced with a newer countertop, but they did a pretty nice job.
Floor. Floor is solid in all areas, but there has been a, 3‘ x 4‘ piece of plywood screwed to the floor by the rear door so I’m assuming it is soft there.
Floor covering. Original linoleum and carpet which is in poor shape.
Table. Has an original wood drop leaf table which is in very nice condition.
Unit sleeps. Currently no beds in unit but room for up to four people to sleep.
Walls. Has original birch paneling on walls and ceiling. There are several areas with water damage and paneling in rear bedroom has been painted.
RUNNING GEAR
Has the original running gear with the exception of newer tires and wheels. We pulled the grease caps and there was adequate grease so we did not repack the wheel bearings. We towed the trailer approximately 100 miles with no issues. I would recommend having the bearings inspected and re-packed if you are towing a longer distance.
Axles and springs. Has the original axles with leaf spring suspension. These have surface rust but everything appears to be good and solid.
Dry weight. 3680#
Safety chains. Yes. But they are pretty flimsy and rusty.
Hitch weight. Approx. 440#
Hitch Ball Size. 2 inch.
Hubcaps. No.
Spare Tire. Yes. Has the two original 16 inch wheels with tires in the trailer loose.
Tire Condition. Has newer ST225/75D15 load range C trailer tires mounted on vintage non-split rims with five lugs on 5 1/2 inch bolt circle. One lug stud is broke off on driver side.
FURNISHINGS
There are no beds, mattresses, couches or curtains in this trailer.
ELECTRICAL
Has the original electric system minus the original breaker box. A new breaker box with automatic reset circuit breakers will need to be added to adequately protect the electrical circuits. Entire electrical system should be checked by a certified expert before use.
110 V Lights. Yes. Has most of the original lights which are brass wall sconces minus the shades. The two original fluorescent lights in the kitchen area are missing.
12 V Lights. no.
Brakes. Has electric brakes, which are in working condition but new wires will need to be run.
Breakaway switch. No.
Converter. No.
Interior Fans. No.
Plug for exterior lights. No.
Porch light. Yes. Has the original bell type porch light which is in working condition.
RV battery. No.
LP SYSTEM
Most of the original LP system is missing but these items should be replaced any way for safety reasons. Entire LP system and appliances should be checked by a certified expert before use.
Furnace. No.
Gas bottles. No.
Gas lights. No.
Gas regulator. No.
Range oven. No, but we may have one in our inventory for sale.
Refrigerator. No, No, but we may have one in our inventory for sale.
Water heater. No.
PLUMBING
Still has some of the original copper freshwater lines did a visual inspection and did not see any cracked lines. Has newer PVC pipe at sink drain. Plumbing system and all appliances should be checked by certified expert before use.
Freshwater tank. No.
Kitchen sink. Yes. Has newer double bowl stainless steel sink which is in very nice condition.
Laboratory. No.
Sewer holding tank. No.
Shower. No.
Toilet. No.
Waste holding tank. No.
Water intake valve. Yes.
Water pump. No.
SPECIAL
This would be a great vintage camper to restore since it has a good exterior skin and is mostly original. Since the original appliances are missing they could be updated with current appliances which are more energy efficient.
