EXTERIOR
The exterior of this Vintage Spartan is about as nice as they come. It is very original, very intact, and the body is nice and straight. It is built like an airplane with riveted construction for long life and durability. It has aircraft grade aluminum that can be polished up to a mirror like shine.
Frame and A-frame. Has surface rust, but everything appears to be good and solid at all areas assessable for inspection.
Dents scratches and damage. There is no major damage on the exterior of this trailer. It is nice and straight with only very minor and very few small blemishes.
Entry door front. Has the original door which has the cool porthole style window. Door has original Bargman brand lock which is complete, in good shape, and in good working condition. Has two keys. Aluminum skin on door is in very good condition. Door will need new seals.
Entry door rear. Also has the original door with the porthole style window. Also has the original Bargman brand lock in good working condition but no keys for this one. The skin on the door is in good shape, but there is some oxidation on the lower 12 inches of the door. Door will need new seals. Screen doors. Has the original wood screen doors. The main wood frames are in pretty decent condition but the trim pieces holding the screens will need to be replaced. The screens are old but still in pretty decent condition. Both screen doors are complete with all hardware.
Steps. Has original aluminum steps for both the front and rear doors, but both steps are inside the trailer in a closet currently. Both step brackets are there and in good shape.
Front hoist. Has the original front hoist which is in working condition.
Hitch coupler. Has the original cast iron hitch coupler with 2 inch ball. Coupler is in working condition, but the spring is either broken or missing.
Roof and Vents. Roof has all the original aluminum vents, and there does not appear to be any visible damage on the roof. No tar or roof coating has been put on the roof except there is a little bit of gray caulking on the front seams.
Exterior lights. Has all four of the original KD 540 marker lights with glass lenses and stainless steel bezels, all glass lenses appear to be in good condition. Has the original KD 520 tail lights with glass lenses and chrome bezels. The glass lenses appear to be in good condition. The chrome bezels are needing re-chromed . Has what I believe is a newer license plate, light and bracket. All original exterior lights are untested. Temporary tow lights will need to be added to the rear of the trailer in order to tow it home. We can supply these if needed.
Underbelly. Has the original insulation board type underbelly which is approximately 50% intact. Most people just tear off this old material and undercoat the bottom of the trailer.
Windows. Has the three original plexiglass or acrylic windows in the front. These are showing some wear and spider webbing but no actual cracks. We do offer new poly carbonate replacement windows on our parts e store. Has all of the original slider windows which are complete with all hardware and screens. Has the original steel Marvel rear window, which is in poor condition and needing replaced. We do offer a solution for this also on our parts e store. Still has both of the original roll down windows which are complete with all hardware and screens. One of the windows currently goes up and down the other one acts like it wants to, but cannot get it without forcing it. All windows will need new seals. We do offer the seals on our parts e store. There is no broken, cracked or missing glass.
INTERIOR
The interior of this trailer is very original and very intact. There are some birch panels with water damage but these can be replaced.
Cabinets and closet doors. Yes, original and most are in good shape.
Hardware. Yes, original.
Countertops. Yes, has the original countertops with matching backsplash. Countertops are tan with a basket weave pattern. They are showing some wear, but overall are in pretty nice condition.
Floor. Is solid in all walking areas but does have some minor soft spots in the front around the perimeter of the trailer.
Floor covering. Has the original linoleum which is in poor condition.
Table. No. But has room for a freestanding table.
Unit sleeps. Currently no beds in unit but room for up to four persons to sleep.
Walls. Has the original birch paneling on walls and ceilings. There are several panels that have water damage which will need to be replaced.
RUNNING GEAR
Has the original running gear with the exception of new tires and wheels. We pulled the grease caps and the bearings were oily so we did not repack them. We towed the trailer over 650 miles with no issues. I would recommend having the bearings inspected and re-packed before towing this trailer any long distance. That is something we can do here in our shop for an additional charge.
Axles and Springs. Yes ,has the original 4 inch dropped axle with leaf springs. Everything appears to be good and solid with only minor surface rust.
Dry weight. 4975#
Hitch ball height. Approximately 19 inches.
Safety chains. No.
Hitch weight. Approximately 600#
Hitch ball size. 2 inch.
Tire condition. Has four brand new 7:00-15 LT 10 ply bias tires mounted on new non-split Silver modular rims. Wheels are six lug with 5 1/2 inch bolt circle.
FURNISHINGS
There are no beds, couches or curtains in this trailer.
ELECTRICAL
The electrical system is mostly original. It does have a Bargman 3 prong power supply with cord which is an upgrade from original. Has the original breaker boxes with four automatic reset circuit breakers. Most lights and all 110 V outlets did work. Entire electrical system should be checked by a certified expert before use.
110 V lights. Yes. Has all the original lights. It has the very cool brass wall sconces with the glass cylinders as shades. All the glass cylinders are in good condition except one has a small crack. Also has the original fluorescent lights in the bathroom, above the kitchen sink and above the refrigerator and two out of three of these currently work.
12 V lights. Yes. Has one original 12 V light in the kitchen area.
Brakes. Yes, has brakes on all four wheels which are in working condition.
Breakaway switch. No.
Converter. No.
Interior fans. Yes, it has an interior fan above the stove and one in the bathroom, but neither one is currently in working condition.
Plug for exterior light. Yes. Has a new seven way plug like most current trailers use but as mentioned before temporary tow lights will need to be added to the rear of this trailer.
Porch light. Yes. Has the original bell type porch light. Untested.
RV battery. No.
LP SYSTEM
Yes. Has what appears to be the original LP system, however, most of these items should be replaced or upgraded for safety reasons. Entire LP system and appliances should be checked by a certified expert before use.
Furnace. Yes. Has the original International brand fuel oil heater which appears to be complete but is untested .
Gas bottles. Yes. Has two 20 pound LP tanks. If these tanks are used, they will need to have new OPD valves installed.
Gas lights. No.
Gas regulator. Yes.
Range oven. Yes, has the original A.B. brand gas range with four burner top and oven below. Range appears to be in good condition but has not been tested. Porcelain apprear to be in very good shape.
Refrigerator. Yes. Has the original Frigidaire brand electric refrigerator which is complete with all shelves, crisper and even has the original ice cube trays. We plugged the refrig. in and it did get cold in both the refrig. and freezer.
Water heater. Yes. Has the original Payne brand water heater which is untested.
PLUMBING
Has all the original plumbing with rubber drain lines and copper fresh water lines. I did a visual inspection of the lines and did not see any cracks, leaks or unconnected lines but we did not test the lines with water or air. Plumbing system and all appliances should be checked by certified expert before use.
Freshwater tank. No.
Kitchen sink. Yes. Has the original two bowl stainless steel sink which is in very nice condition. Also has the stainless steel sideboard. Also has what appears to be the original faucet, which has an art deco flair to it.
Lavatory. Yes. Has the original aluminum lavatory with the original faucets.
Sewer holding tank. No.
Shower. Yes. Has the original wet bath type shower which is all aluminum with riveted construction.
Toilet, Yes, has the original toilet. Untested.
Tub. No.
Waste holding tank. No.
Water intake valve. Yes.
Water pump. No.
SPECIAL
Vintage Spartans which are this original, unmolested and complete are getting almost next to impossible to find. This one would be a great candidate for a complete restoration since it is so original and the body is in great shape. The 30’ Spartan Mansions, like this one, are a lot harder to find than the 25’ Manors or the 33’ Royal Mansions.
