EXTERIOR
The exterior of this vintage Spartan is in very nice shape. There are some very minor dents if you look closely, but overall this is one of the nicest exteriors I have seen lately.
The exterior is built like an airplane with riveted construction for long life and durability. It has aircraft grade aluminum that can be polished up to a mirror like shine.
Frame and A-frame. The frame has minor surface rust but appears to be solid in all areas. The A-frame has been replaced with new heavy duty 5 inch steel channel and has been extended to a total of 32 1/2 inches from the body.
Dents scratches and damage. There are some very minor dents but you really have to look for them to find them. Overall this exterior is nice and straight.
Entry door front. Has the original aluminum entry door with the cool porthole style window. The exterior skin of the door is in good shape but at the very bottom it does have some oxidation holes. This can easily be fixed with a strip of aluminum riveted on. The original lock has been upgraded to a L-lock so it still looks very vintage. No keys. The entry door has a new seal but needs re-glued in a few places.
Entry door rear. Has the original aluminum door with the porthole style window. This door has the original Bargman lock which is complete and in good shape and in good working order. No keys. Exterior skin of door is in good shape but it also has oxidation holes at the bottom. Door has a newer foam seal.
Screen doors. Has the original style wood screen doors which are oak. Screen doors are in good shape but could stand to be refinished.
Steps. Both of the slide out steps are missing but both of the brackets are still there and in good condition. We do offer new reproduction steps on our website.
Front hoist. Has a newer Atwood brand side wind front hoist which is in good working condition.
Hitch coupler. Has a newer Atwood coupler with 2 inch ball. Coupler is in good working condition.
Roof and vents. The roof is very dirty but appears to be in very good condition. A low profile Carrier brand roof air conditioner has been added and all three of the other roof vents have been replaced with newer standard size roof vents. Two of these new vents have fans in them. We cleaned all roof seems and resealed with Acrylic R. We also cleaned around all of the vents and resealed all the vent seams with Acrylic R and installed new seals on the vents.
Exterior lights. Newer teardrop style marker lights have been added on the sides and newer stainless steel taillights have been added in the rear. I checked all exterior lights before I towed the trailer home and everything was working in the rear but the side marker lights were not.
Underbelly. The original underbellies on these were an insulation type board and just did not hold up after 60+ years. This original material has all been removed.
Windows. Has the original three plexiglass windows in the front which are showing some wear but are still in pretty decent condition. Has all four of the original slider windows but all of the slider handles are missing. We do sell these handles on our website. All the slider windows have new aluminum screens. Both of the crank down quarter windows are still there and complete with new screens, original window trim, crank handles and escutcheon rings. One window rolls down and the other one does not. Has the original style Marvel brand rear window. There is no cracked, missing or broken glass. I’m guessing all windows will need new seals.
INTERIOR
The interior is very original but does have some water damage. We have completely resealed everything on the roof but the damaged birch panels still need replaced. This trailer still has the original wood venetian blinds between the living room and dining area. It still has the original front sofa and original dinette seats which have both been re-upholstered.
Cabinet and closet doors. Yes, has the original birch doors. Most of them are in good shape but there are several that have delamination at the bottom. Catches are original and in working condition.
Countertops. Has the original countertops which have a vintage tan basket weave pattern. Countertops are in good condition but do show some wear from use.
Floor. The floor has soft spots in the living room area and in the rear bedroom under the roof vent. If I were restoring this, I would replace the plywood floor in the living room area since it is a large open area. Then I would cover the rest of the floor with new 3/8” or 1/2” plywood. I don’t feel like the soft area in the bedroom is bad enough to justify tearing up the old plywood.
Floor covering. Some bare plywood and some 12 inch floor tiles which are in poor condition.
Table. Yes, has the original table with the vintage tan basket weave pattern. Table is in good condition.
Unit sleeps. Room for up to six persons.
Walls. Walls and ceiling are birch. There are several wall and ceiling panels which will need to be replaced. This birch paneling is readily available.
RUNNING GEAR
Has the original running gear with the exception of new tires and wheels. Wheel bearings have been inspected and repacked. We towed this trailer over 350 miles with no problems.
