EXTERIOR
The exterior of this vintage Vagabond looks really bad because of the multi colored paint job but actually the exterior skin is in very good condition with only minor flaws. It is all aluminum with the exception of the bottom wraps, which are steel. It is very original and very intact. Vagabond is a very high quality trailer and is a favorite among many vintage trailer collectors. This trailer new costed approximately $4500 back in 1949.
Frame and A-frame. This trailer has the ladder type frame that Vagabond used for many years. Frame has surface rust, but appears to be good and solid in all areas accessible for inspection.
Dents, scratches and damage. The worst damage is some small dents/wrinkles on the driver side, rear of the trailer. Other than that there are just minor dents, dings, and flaws. Overall, it has a nice straight exterior. Several of the bottom wraps are rusted badly or missing.
Entry door front. Has the original entry door which is in good condition. Has the original Bargman
L- 66 lock which is in working condition, but no keys. Door will need new seals.
Entry door rear. Has the original entry door, which is in pretty good shape. Does have a small indention/wrinkle near the bottom of the door. Has the original Bargman L-66 lock but the handle is broken. No keys. Door will need new seals.
Screen door front. Has the original wood sliding screen door but the track for it is bad so it does not slide out like it should. Screen door appears to be in decent condition.
Screen door rear. Has the original wood screen door, which is in pretty good condition.
Steps. Front step is missing. Rear step is there and in working condition but does have surface rust. Front hoist. Has the original front hoist. Is rusty but is in working order.
Hitch coupler. Has the original cast-iron hitch coupler, which is in working condition.
Roof. Has all the original vents on roof and roof has no apparent damage but somebody has sealed the seams with black tar.
Exterior lights. Has all four of the original teardrop shaped marker lights but the lenses are either missing or shot. Has both of the original Bargman Trail Lite #2 tail lights with stainless steel bezels and glass lenses. Glass lenses appear to be in good condition. Has the original Bargman license plate, light and bracket but light is missing both lenses and bracket is rusty. Temporary tail lights will be needed in the rear to tow the trailer home.
Underbelly. Has the original underbelly which is an insulation type board. It is approximately 50% intact but what most people do is just tear it off and undercoat the bottom of the trailer.
Windows. Has all the original windows. Most of the windows are complete with screens and hardware. A few of the windows have plexiglass instead of regular glass.
INTERIOR
The interior of this trailer is very original, complete and intact. However, there is some water damage. It’s still has the original light fixtures, original stove and all the original cabinets. The interior is pretty dirty and will need a good cleaning.
Cabinets. Original birch in good shape.
Cabinet hardware. Original and in good shape.
Countertops. Has the original kitchen countertops, which is a tan colored with a basket weave pattern. Countertops do show some wear.
Floor. Floor is solid in most walking areas. However, there are a few soft spots. The soft spots are mainly on the outside edges right next to the walls.
Floor covering. Has the original 9 inch tiles which are in fair to poor condition.
Table. No table, but there is room for a freestanding table. Does come with three cool vintage wood folding chairs.
Unit sleeps. Room for up to six persons.
RUNNING GEAR
Has the original running gear with the exception of 4 brand new tires and wheels. We pulled the grease caps and they had adequate grease so we did not repack the wheel bearings. I would suggest having the wheel bearings inspected and re-packed if towing a long distance. That is something we can do here for an additional cost.
Axles and springs. Has the original axles with leaf spring suspension. Has surface rust but everything appears to be good and solid .

12 V lights. No.

Breakaway switch. No.

Has the original regulator, copper LP pigtails and LP tank holder however, most of these items should probably be replaced for safety reasons anyway. Entire LP system and appliances should be checked by a certified expert before use.

Gas bottles. No.
Gas lights. No.
Gas regulator. Yes.

Water heater. Yes. Has a Speed O-Matic brand electric water heater which I’m guessing is approximately 30 gallons. Untested.
PLUMBING
Has the original plumbing system in it with copper lines and brass drains. Looks like several lines are disconnected so plan on doing some plumbing work. Plumbing system and all appliances should be checked by certified expert before use.
Fresh water tank. No.
Kitchen sink. Yes. Has the original two bowl kitchen sink. Does have a large chip in the porcelain. Lavatory. Yes, has the original porcelain lavatory which is in good shape.
Sewer holding tank. No.
Shower. Yes, has a wet bath type shower enclosure, but currently there is no shower faucet or head. Toilet. Yes. I have never seen a vintage toilet like this one. The toilet basically has a seat and lid with a large removable metal bucket underneath it. Then there is a little box behind the toilet that had small chips of charcoal in it. I am assuming that the charcoal would help to control odor then help break down the waist. I guess you could call this a vintage composting toilet.
Tub. No.
Waste holding tank. No.
Water intake valve. Yes.
Water pump. No.
SPECIAL
This trailer would be an excellent one for a complete restoration. It is a good solid trailer that is mostly original, intact and complete. It has a nice exterior shell which is all aluminum except the bottom wraps. Since the bottom wraps are rusty, these could easily be replaced with aluminum.
