EXTERIOR
The exterior of this vintage Spartan is very intact, very original and very straight. It is built like an airplane with riveted construction for long life and durability. The exterior skin is aircraft grade aluminum, which can be polished to a mirror like shine.
Bumper, frame and A-frame. I did a visual inspection and everything looks good in solid in all areas assessable for inspection
Dents, scratches and damage. The worst damage on this trailer is on the driver side front of the trailer, which has a crease in the aluminum skin. There is a patch on the passenger side of the trailer right above the rear tire. Other than this, there are only very minor dents and flaws. Overall it has a very sweet exterior.
Entry door front. Has the original aluminum door with the cool porthole style window. The exterior skin of the door is in pretty good shape with only minor flaws. Has the original Bargman brand lock which is in good working condition. Has 2 keys. Door will need new seals.
Entry door rear. Has the original aluminum entry door with the port hole window. Exterior skin of door is in very good shape. Also has the original Bargman brand lock which is in working condition. Door will need new seals. Still has the interior vinyl door covering, which is in poor condition but still works great for a pattern. No keys. Both doors have new stainless steel hold back latches.
Screen door front. Has the original wood screen door which is in fair condition.
Screen door rear. Has the original wood screen door, which is in good to fair condition.
Entry steps. Yes, has both of the original aluminum slide out steps which are in good working condition.
Front hoist. Has the original front hoist which is in working condition.
Hitch coupler. Has the original cast-iron hitch coupler with a 2 inch ball, which is in working condition.
Roof and vents. Has the original roof with all the original aluminum vents with the exception of the furnace vent, which is missing. This has been covered to keep water out. There is no apparent damage to the roof. Exterior lights. Has all of the original exterior lights. Has the four KD 540 marker lights with glass lenses and stainless steel bezels. All glass lenses are in good shape. Has the original Bargman Trail-light #2 tail lights with glass lenses and stainless steel bezels. Both glass lenses are in good shape. Has the original Bargman brand license plate light and bracket. The red glass lens and clear cylindrical lens are in good shape. All original lights are un-tested. Temporary tow lights will need to be added to tow the trailer home.
Underbelly. This is sort of rare for a 1951 Spartan Royal Mansion, but it has an all aluminum underbelly. Typically, they were a insulation board type material which just did not hold up. This underbelly has typical oxidation but is in good shape overall.
Windows, glass and seals. The original front three plexiglass windows have been replaced with brand new UV stabilized polycarbonate with all new seals. All the other windows are original and complete with all hardware and screens. Has the original crank down windows in the rear bedroom area. One window is complete and in working order the other window is missing the escutcheon and crank handle and I believe the mechanism shaft is broke. There is no broken, cracked or missing glass. All windows will need new seals except the front ones which already have new seals.
INTERIOR
The interior of this vintage Spartan is very original and very nice for a un-restored trailer.
Cabinet and closet doors. Has all the original closet doors, cabinet doors and drawers. A few of them have veneer, which is chipped or missing but otherwise, they are a nice condition. Has all the original hardware. Countertops. Has the original gray cracked ice countertops with matching backsplash. Countertops are still in pretty nice condition.
Floor. Floor is very solid in all walking areas. I did find a small soft spot, (about 2 square foot) in the front driver side corner of the trailer underneath the couch.
Floor covering. Has carpet in the living room and bedroom area and linoleum in the kitchen and dining area. Floor coverings are in fair condition.
Table. Yes, has the original table with the matching gray cracked ice laminate. Table is in good condition.
Unit sleeps. Room four up to six person to sleep.
Walls. Has the original birch paneling on walls and ceiling. 95% of the birch paneling is in very good condition. However, there are a couple of areas underneath some windows that have some water streaks. All the birch paneling is still good and solid with no delaminating, but will need to be sanded and varnished.
RUNNING GEAR
Has all of the original running gear with the exception of new tires and wheels. Wheel bearings were recently repacked by previous owner. We can inspect and re-pack all the wheel bearing for an additional charge, if you so desire.
Axles and springs. Has the original axle with leaf spring suspension. There is surface rust but everything appears to be good and solid.
Dry weight. Approximately 5200 pounds.
Hitch height. Approximately 20 inches.
Safety chains. No.
Hitch weight. Approximately 625#
Hitch ball size. 2 inch.
Spare tire. No
Tire condition. Has new ST225-75R 15 eight ply trailer tires mounted on non-split rims with six lugs on 5 1/2 inch bolt circle.
FURNISHINGS
Bed and mattress. Has the original birch bed base with 52“ x 74“ mattress in rear bedroom. Mattress is old and should be replaced.
Couch. Has the original couch base and cushion which is 41“ x 82“. It is missing the original upper cushion and backrests.
Curtains. No.
Dinette cushions. Yes, has the original dinette cushions. The vinyl has some rips and will need to be recovered but otherwise are in good condition.
ELECTRICAL
Has a new 20 amp power inlet and a newer Square D breaker box with four automatic reset circuit breakers. We plugged the trailer in and all of the electrical outlets did work. Entire electrical system should be checked by a certified expert before use.
110 V lights. Yes, all original and in working condition except for two of the fluorescent lights.
12 V lights. No.
Brakes. Yes. It looks like this trailer has factory hydraulic brakes, which is rather rare. All of the brake lines appear to be there, but there is no surge brake mechanism at the front coupler. I have no clue if they work, but will probably need to be rebuilt.
Breakaway switch. No.
Converter. No.
Interior fans. Has an interior fan above the stove and in the bathroom area, but neither one is currently working.
Plug for exterior lights. No.
Porch light. Yes. Has the original bell type porch light which is in working condition.
RV battery. No.
LP SYSTEM
The majority of the original LP system is missing, but most of these items should be replaced anyway for safety reasons. It still does have the copper line going to the front of the trailer. Entire LP system and appliances should be checked by a certified expert before use.
Furnace. Yes. Has the original Coleman brand fuel oil furnace, which is untested.
Gas bottles. No.
Gas lights. No.
Gas regulator. No
Range/Oven. Yes, has the original Dixie brand stove with four burners on top and oven on bottom. Stove is complete with grates and knobs but is missing the metal rack for in the oven. Stove does have some chips in the porcelain. All top burners except one lit. The other one probably just needs cleaned. The pilot and main burner in the oven did light also.
Refrigerator. Has the original 110 V Frigidaire brand refrigerator. We plugged it in and it does cool. Refrig. Has two of the wire racks but is missing the crisper which goes in the bottom.
Water heater. Yes. Has an older Electro brand electric water heater, which is untested. 6 gallons.
PLUMBING
It looks like it has some of the original copper freshwater lines but some are disconnected and some of the drain lines are missing so plan on doing some plumbing. Plumbing system and all appliances should be checked by certified expert before use.
Freshwater tank. No.
Kitchen sink. Yes. Has the original two bowl stainless steel kitchen sink with stainless steel sideboard. Sink bowls will need re-soldered to stainless steel top.
Lavatory. Yes. Has the original aluminum lavatory. It has been painted but appears to be in good condition.
Sewer holding tank. No.
Shower. Yes. Has the original aluminum shower with riveted construction. It also has been painted.
Toilet. No.
Tub. No.
Waste holding tank. No.
Water intake valve. No.
Water pump. No
SPECIAL
Vintage Spartans as original and as nice as this one are getting very difficult to find. This one could get by with a minor restoration so you could be using it real soon.
Air conditioning. No.
Awning. No.
Microwave. No.
Stabilizer jacks. No.
TV and antenna. No.
