EXTERIOR
The exterior of this vintage Spartan is very original, very intact and pretty sweet. It has all the original windows, doors and vents and the skin is in pretty decent condition. It is built with riveted construction for long life and durability. It has aircraft grade aluminum that can be polished up to a mirror like shine.
Bumper and A-frame. Has surface rust but everything appears to be good and solid.
Dents, scratches and damage. The worst dent is on the driver side, rear of the trailer where there are some small dents and the rub rail is bent up. The bottom wraps have a couple of places where there are some dents. Has a shallow 12 inch long scratch on the driver side front of the trailer underneath the window. Overall, the exterior skin is in pretty nice condition.
Entry door front. Has the original aluminum entry door with the cool porthole style window. The exterior skin of the door is in good shape with only some very minor blemishes. Has the original Bargman brand lock and lockbox which is in working condition. However, the H 20 handle was broken and has been repaired. Does have one key but it operates sort of hard. Door has old seals which should be replaced.
Entry door rear. Has the original aluminum entry door with the cool porthole style window as well. The exterior skin on the door is in good shape with only minor blemishes. Has the original Bargman lock and lockbox which are in working condition but both the interior and the exterior handles are broken. No keys. Door has old seals which should be replaced.
Screen Doors. Has the original wood screen doors. The front one is in poor condition and the rear one is in fair condition.
Entry door steps. Has the original steps on the front and rear door, both are pretty rusty and will need work.
Front hoist. Has the original front hoist but it is rusted and froze up.
Hitch coupler. Has the original cast-iron hitch coupler with 2 inch ball. Has surface rust, but is in fine working condition.
Roof and vents. Has the original roof with no apparent damage. Has all the original aluminum roof vents with the exception of the furnace vent which is not original. All roof vent bases have been sealed with acrylic R sealer.
Exterior lights. Has the original Bargman brand Trail-light #2 tail lights with steel bezels and glass lenses. Steel bezels do you have rust. Glass lenses appeared to be in good condition. Has the original Bargman license plate light. Bracket is rusty, but light still has original red glass lens and the original clear cylindrical glass lens. Both those lenses are in good condition. Has all four of the original KD 540 marker lights with glass lenses and stainless steel bezels. All glass lenses appeared to be in good condition. Original lights have not been tested. Temporary lights will need to be added to the trailer to tow it home safely. We can provide those here for an additional cost.
Underbelly. Has the original underbelly, which was a insulation type board which is about 50% intact. We normally just tear off the old underbelly material then undercoat the bottom.
Windows. Has the original three curved plexiglass windows in the front. These are showing lots of wear with cracks and stress cracks. We do offer new polycarbonate windows on our website. Has all of the original aluminum two panel, jealousy windows, which open. These windows are complete with all hardware. However, several of the screens will need to be replaced. Has the original Marvel brand window in the rear which is aluminum. The earlier models had steel windows which rusted badly. Has both of the original roll down windows in the rear bedroom. One of them is in working order. The other one the crank handle shaft is broke.
INTERIOR
The interior of this vintage Spartan is very original, complete and intact. It has all the original appliances and most of the original light fixtures. There are some birch panels with water damage, but everything is there that can be used as a pattern.
Cabinet and closet doors. Yes, has the original birch cabinet and closet doors. Most of them are in good shape but several of them have some delamination.
Catches. Yes. Original.
Countertops. Has the original countertops with matching back splash. Countertop are still in pretty nice condition but are faded due to use and wear.
Floor. Floor is solid in most areas, but there are some spots soft spots in the front, and the rear, and under 2 of the roof vents.
Floor covering. Has the original linoleum which is in poor condition.
Table. Has the original table which matches the countertop. Table is in good condition.
Unit sleeps. There is room for up to six persons to sleep.
Walls. Has the original birch paneling on the walls and ceiling. There are several panels that have water damage and will need to be replaced.
RUNNING GEAR
Has the original running gear with the exception of tires and wheels. We pulled the grease caps and there was adequate grease so we did not repack the wheel bearings. We towed the trailer approximately 200 miles with no issues. If towing a long distance, I would recommend inspecting and re-packing the wheel bearings. We can do this here for an additional cost.
Axels. Has the original axles with leaf spring suspension. Axles have surface rust, but everything appears to be good and solid.
Dry weight. 5700#
Hitch ball height. Approximately 18 inches.
Safety chains. No.
Hitch weight. Approximately 650#
Hitch ball size. 2 inch.
Hubcaps. No.
Spare tire. No.
Tire condition. Has four 7:00-15 LT Carlisle brand eight ply biased tires mounted on new non-split rims with six lugs on 5 1/2 inch bolt circle. Tires do have some very minor weather checking.
FURNISHINGS
Bed mattresses. No.
Couch. Yes. Has a vintage click clack couch which is in working order but will need to be re-upholstered.
Curtains. No.
Dinette cushions. Yes. Has the original dinette cushions which are in decent shape, but will need to be re-upholstered.
ELECTRICAL
Has the original electrical system. The breaker box has four automatic reset circuit breakers. There is a new 15 amp power supply we put on so that we could test the lights and outlets. All the lights work except one of the fluorescent lights over the kitchen sink and all the outlets do work. Entire electrical system should be checked by a certified expert before use.
110 V lights. Yes. Has most of the original light fixtures and all lights work except one.
12 V lights. No.
Brakes. Trailer does have brakes on both axles but are currently untested.
Breakaway switch. No.
Converter. No.
Interior fans. There is an interior fan in the shower area but it is not currently working.
Plug for exterior lights. No.
Porch light. Yes. Has the original bell type porch light which is in working condition.
RV battery. No.
LP SYSTEM
Most of the original LP system is missing but these items should be replaced anyway for safety reasons. Entire LP system and appliances should be checked by a certified expert before use.
Furnace. Yes. Has the original Coleman brand oil burning furnace. Furnace is untested.
Gas bottles. No.
Gas lights. No.
Gas regulator. No.
Range/oven. Yes. Has the original Dixie brand range with four burners on top and oven below. The oven is the deluxe one with the clock, and glass window for seeing in the oven. Oven is complete with all burners, grates, knobs, and wire shelves. Range is untested.
Refrigerator. Yes. Has the original Frigidaire 110 V refrigerator. We plugged the refrigerator in and it did cool well.
Water heater. Yes. Has the original Payne brand electric water heater. Water heater is untested and is 6 gallon.
PLUMBING
Has the original plumbing system with copper fresh water lines and copper and brass drains. I did a visual inspection and did not see any cracked water lines but system has not been tested with water.
Plumbing system and all appliances should be checked by certified expert before use.
Fresh water tank. No.
Kitchen sink. Yes. Has the original 2 bowl stainless steel sink with stainless steel sideboard. Sink and sideboard are in good condition.
Sewer holding tank. No.
Shower. Yes. Has the original all aluminum shower with riveted construction. Still has all the original shower hardware.
Toilet. Yes. Has the original porcelain toilet which appears to be in good shape but I’m sure the valve will need to be rebuilt.
Tub. No.
Waste holding tank. No.
Water intake valve. No
Water pump. No.
SPECIAL
If you are looking for a very original, unmolested, Spartan Royal Mansion, this old girl has tons of potential. Vintage trailers are only original once and once they’re molested it’s very expensive to get them back to original.
