EXTERIOR
The exterior of this trailer is in decent shape. It is not perfect, it has some dents dings, flaws and patches but nothing that is major and not repairable. It is built like an airplane with riveted construction for a long life and durability. It has aircraft grade aluminum that can be polished up to a mirror like shine.
Frame and A-Frame. A-frame is bent up a little by the hitch coupler from where the previous owner used a tractor and chain to pull it. This could probably be straightened with a torch and hammer. Frame and A-frame do have surface rust but I did not see any severe rust issues in any areas which were accessible for inspection.
Dents scratches and damage. The worst damage is on the right rear where it looks like they maybe got too close to something. There are some big patches on the driver side front also. There are a few areas that have been hit with shotgun pellets. The rub rail is bad or missing in several areas. We do offer the straight rub rail on our website. Overall I would say the body is in average condition.
Entry door front. Has the original aluminum entry door with riveted construction and the cool porthole style window. Door has some minor dents and dings. Door has the original Bargman lock which is in working condition but H-20 handle is broken. Door will need new gasket.
Entry door rear. Has the original aluminum door with riveted construction and also has the porthole style window. This door has a small slice and a couple of small holes which will need patched, otherwise the door is in decent condition. Has the original Bargman lockbox which is in working condition but the outside handle and bezel are broken. We do have a retrofit kit available on our website for this. Door will need new seals. No keys for either door.
Screen doors. Are either missing or in poor condition and will need replaced. We do offer these on our website.
Entry step. Both entry steps are missing but both of the doors still have the step brackets. The bracket on the rear step is bent and will need some repair. We do offer reproduction steps on our website.
Front hoist. No.
Hitch coupler. Yes. Has the original hitch coupler with 2 inch ball. Coupler is in working condition.
Roof and vents. Roof is very dirty but I do not see any obvious damage. There may be some minor hail damage. All of the original vents are there with the exception of the vent for the furnace. A couple of the aluminum roof vent covers have tears in them and all the roof vents will need new operators. We do offer these on our website.
Exterior lights. Has all four of the original KD 540 marker lights with glass lenses and stainless steel bezels. All glass lenses appear to be in good condition. Original tail lights have been replaced but are in poor condition. We do offer new stainless steel tail lights which will fit in the same holes. Has the original Bargman license plate light and bracket. The base has some pitting in the chrome but it looks like the original red glass lens and clear cylindrical lens are in good condition. The license plate bracket is there but rusty. We do offer steel or stainless steel ones on our website. None of the original lights have been tested but temporary tow lights have been added in the rear so that the trailer can be towed home safely.
Underbelly. Has the original underbelly which used an insulation type board. These did not hold up after 60+ years. We usually tear off the old material then undercoat the bottom of the trailer.
Windows. Has the original three plexiglass windows in the front of the trailer. These are worn out and needing replaced. We do offer these on our website made from polycarbonate, a much better material than plexiglass. All of the opening windows are original with the exception of one which has been modified into a non-opening picture window. All the opening window are complete with hardware except one window is missing one window lever. The screens are steel and should be replaced. Has the original Marvel brand window in the rear which is aluminum. Has both of the crank down windows in the rear bedroom, with screens, but only one is in working condition. All the glass is good with the exception of the bathroom window glass which will need replaced. All windows will need new seals.
INTERIOR
The interior of this trailer is pretty well shot. It had a couple of roof vents that were left open which caused extensive water damage. This would be a great trailer to redo on the inside with whatever design & floor plan works for you.
Floor. Original floor is approximately 50% intact there are several big holes in the kitchen area and several soft spots around the outer perimeter.
Table. No.
RUNNING GEAR
Has the original running gear with the exception of brand new tires and wheels. Wheel bearings have been inspected and repacked. We towed this trailer approximately 400 miles with no issues.
Dry weight. 5700 pounds.
Hitch ball height. Approximately 18 inches.
Safety chains. No.
Hitch weight. Approximately 684#
Hitch ball size. 2 inch.
Hubcaps. No.
Spare tire. No.
Tire condition. Has four brand new 7:00-15LT 10 ply bias tires mounted on new non-split rims. Rims are silver mods with six lugs on 5 1/2 inch bolt circle.
ELECTRICAL
Most of the original electrical system is missing but these items need upgraded anyway. Entire electrical system should be checked by certified expert before use.
110 V lights. Yes. Has some of the original fluorescent lights in the trailer but other lights are missing. Lights are un-tested.
12 V lights. No.
Brakes. Yes. Has electric brakes on both axles. Brakes are in working condition. Breakaway switch. No.
Plug for exterior lights. Yes has new seven way plug like most current RVs use.
Porch light. No.
RV battery. No.
LP SYSTEM
Most of the LP system is gone but these items should be replaced for safety reasons anyway. Entire LP system should be checked by a certified expert before use.
Furnace. No.
Gas bottles. No.
Range oven. No.
Refrigerator. No.
Water heater. No.
PLUMBING.
Most of original plumbing is gone, however, there still is some in the bathroom area. Plumbing system should be checked by a certified expert before use.
Shower. Yes. Still has the original aluminum shower with riveted construction.
Lavatory. It does still have the original aluminum lavatory with faucets. Lavatory looks to be in decent condition.
Toilet. No.
OTHER
I often get request for a trailer with a decent exterior and no interior. Well, this trailer pretty much fits that bill. It’s nice that it still has the shower intact because that would be something expensive to duplicate. This old girl will take some work but you will have something worth bragging about when done.
