EXTERIOR
The exterior of this trailer is very nice overall it does have some minor dents and flaws. It is built like an airplane with riveted construction for long life and durability. It has aircraft great aluminum which can be polished up to a mirror like shine.
Frame and A-frame. Frame does have a fair amount of rust but they only rust through I found was on the driver side section of the A-frame. It is rotted through on the bottom. I did a quick fix on this so that it would be safer to tow home. I towed it approximately 500 miles with no issues.
Dents scratches and damage . The worst dent is on the driver side of the trailer which is just a small indentation with about a 14 inch scratch . Other than that, there are just very minor flaws dents and dings.
Entry door front. Has the original aluminum entry door. Door is in pretty good shape but does have some minor flaws. Has the cool porthole window. Door has the original Bargman brand L-66 lock in working condition with one key. A 1 inch steel angle has been added to the door to stiffen it. Door has old seals which should be replaced.
Rear door. Rear door is missing on this trailer but I have the right size Spartan door which I will include with the trailer. I have included photos of this door.
Screen door front. Has the original wood screen door. The outside has been painted white but the inside is still the natural wood finish. Door is in fair condition.
Screen door rear. No.
Steps – No, but front door still has the original brackets for the step.
Front hoist. Has original front hoist but it is rusted and froze up. I
Hitch coupler. Has original cast-iron coupler with 2 5/16 inch ball. Coupler is in working condition.
Roof and Vents. Has the original aluminum roof has been coated with Kool Seal roof coating. All of the crank up roof vents are there but the bathroom vent and furnace vent is missing. There is still an aluminum rail on the trailer from an old awning or screen room.
Exterior lights. Tail and license plate light are missing the bezels and lenses. All 4 of the original marker lights are there but 1 is missing a lens. Temporary LED tow lights have been added to the rear of the trailer so it can be towed home safely.
Underbelly. Has the original aluminum underbelly which is about 80% intact. The aluminum panels behind the axle have quite a bit of oxidation with some holes.
Windows. Has all of the original windows with the exception of a pair of windows is missing from the driver side of the trailer. I believe I have a salvaged window this correct size that I will include with the sale of this trailer. All the windows appear to be complete with all hardware except one window is missing a window lever . All the glass is good except for one window which has a crack. The front and rear curved plexiglass windows have surface scratches from cleaning but no cracks.
INTERIOR
The interior is mostly original with the exception that the original appliances are missing and several of the interior lights are not original.
Cabinet and closet doors. Yes, original and in pretty good condition.
Catches. Yes, original.
Countertops. Has the original countertop in the kitchen which has the gray basket weave pattern. Counter top is in good to fair condition.
Floor. A previous owner has put particleboard over top of the original floor . There are some soft spots so this obviously was not fixed correctly.
Floor covering. Mostly particle board but some tiles in fair to poor condition.
Table. No ,but there is plenty of room for a freestanding table.
Unit sleeps. This is a rather rare two bedroom model where there is a mid bedroom along with a bedroom in the rear. There is potential for six persons to sleep.
Walls. Has the original birch paneling which is in pretty decent condition. It will probably need to be sanded and re-varnished. There are a couple of sheets of birch paneling on the ceiling in the rear bedroom that will need replaced .
RUNNING GEAR
Has the original running gear with the exception of new tires and wheels. Wheel bearings have been inspected and repacked.
Axles & Springs. Has surface rust but everything appears to be solid.
Dry weight. 7180#. Hitch ball height. Approximately 20 inches. Safety chains. No. Hitch weight. Approx. 900#. Hitch ball size 2 5/16 inch. Hubcaps. No.
Spare tire. No.
Tire condition. Has four brand new 7:00-15 LT 10 ply tires mounted on new conventional style non-split rims which have six lugs on 5 1/2 inch bolt circle.
FURNISHINGS
No mattresses or curtains in this trailer .
ELECTRICAL
Has the original electrical system with six automatic reset circuit breakers. All the lights and most the outlets in the trailer worked. Entire electrical system should be checked by a certified expert before use.
110 V lights. Yes. Only has a couple of the original lights other ones are newer.
12 V lights. No.
Brakes. Yes, has brakes on both axles which are in working condition.
Breakaway switch. Yes. Has had a new breakaway kit installed with battery which is in working condition.
Converter. No.
Interior fans. Has a fan over the stove but it’s not currently working.
Plug for exterior lights. Yes. Has a brand new seven way plug like most of the current RVs use.
Porch light. Yes. Has the original bell type porch light. Untested.
RV battery. No.
LP SYSTEM
Most of the original LP system is missing but these items should be replaced for safety reasons anyway. Entire LP system and appliances should be checked by a certified expert before use.
Furnace. No. Gas bottles. No. Gas lights. No. Gas regulator. No. Range oven. Yes, has a newer electric range which is untested.
Refrigerator. Has a newer refrigerator. We plugged it in and it does cool.
Water heater. No.
PLUMBING
Has some of the original copper plumbing and some newer stuff. I did a visual inspection and did not see any cracked waterlines but did see some previous repairs. Plumbing system and all appliances should be checked by certified expert before use.
Freshwater tank. No.
Kitchen sink. Yes. Has the original 2 bowl kitchen sink. It is in good shape with exception of a couple of chips in the porcelain.
Lavatory. Yes. Has a newer oval lavatory which is in good condition.
Holding tanks. No. Shower. No. Toilet. Yes, has a newer toilet. Untested.
Tub. No. Waste holding tank. No. Water intake valve. Yes.
Water pump. No.
No air conditioner awnings or hitch parts come with this trailer.
OTHER
This vintage Spartan is not perfect but it does have a lot going for it. It is what is referred to as a “Double Ender” where the exterior of the trailer looks the same in the front and in the rear. With a double ender, you have a good view to all the surroundings. This is a 2 bedroom model which is very hard to find and very desirable. It has the port hole style window in the front door which is very cool and very desirable. If you can do most of the restoration work yourself, you can end up owning a nice vintage Spartan without having a fortune in it.
