EXTERIOR
The exterior of this vintage Spartan is in very good shape overall. It has all the original windows, both original doors and is pretty straight. It is built like an airplane with riveted construction for long life and durability. It has aircraft grade aluminum that can be polished up to a mirror like shine.
Frame and a frame. Bottom lip of A-frame channel on streetside had some rust issues so a 1/4" x 4 foot steel angle was welded to the bottom of the A-frame on both sides. It was towed over 1000 miles with no issues. Rest of frame has surface rust but all appears to be good and solid.
Dents scratches and damage. The worst dent is on the curb side rear bottom wrap. This could be removed and straightened out on a English wheel. Otherwise, the trailer has only very minor dents and dings. The exterior skin does have rust stains on it, I’m guessing from a sprinkler system. These rust stains will come off with some rust remover and elbow grease.
Entry door front. Has the original aluminum entry door. The bottom third of the door is pushed in a little. It has a newer L-66 Bargman brand lock which is in working order. No keys. Door still has the original interior vinyl cover which is in poor condition but would work great for a pattern. Door has original seals which should be replaced.
Entry door rear. Has the original aluminum entry door with the original Bargman brand L-66 lock which is in working condition. No keys. Door skin is in very good condition with only some very minor dents and dings.
Screen door front. Has the original aluminum screen door which is complete and in decent shape. There are a couple of small holes in the screens.
Screen door rear . Has the original aluminum screen door which is in good condition. Entry steps. Both steps are missing from the front and rear door but original brackets are still there. We do have reproduction steps available on our website.
Front hoist. Has the original front hoist which is in working condition.
Hitch coupler. Has the original hitch coupler which is in working condition. Takes a 2 -5/16 inch ball.
Roof and Vents. Has the original aluminum roof which is cambered. A cambered roof is much better and stronger that a flat roof. It sheds water better and can hold up to deeper snow loads in winter climates. There has been no tar, caulking or sealer added to the roof.
Exterior lights. Has all the original exterior lights which are showing wear. We do have replacements for these on our website. Temporary tow lights have been added to the rear so that the trailer can be towed home safely.
Underbelly. Has the original aluminum underbelly which is in good shape. There are a few small holes here and there but overall it is in good condition.
Windows. Has all of the original windows. The front curved plexiglass windows are cloudy with small scratches. Street side window is popping out of the seal at the bottom corner. We do offer new UV stabilized polycarbonate replacement windows on our website. All of the opening windows are the original aluminum windows which are complete with all hardware with the exception one window is missing a window lever which we do have available. Most of the windows have screens but these are old and should be replaced. All window seals are original and should be replaced. We do offer seals on our website. There is no cracked broken or missing glass.
INTERIOR
The interior of this trailer is very original and intact but it needs a good cleaning. It has all the original appliances, light fixtures, dinette booth, and cabinets.
Cabinet and closet doors. Has the original birch cabinet doors, closet doors and drawers. The birch is in good shape but there are a few that have some chipped veneer. Catches. Has most of the original catches but a few are missing.
Countertops. Has the original kitchen countertops with matching backsplash which have a grayish blue speckled pattern. Countertops are in good to fair condition. Bathroom countertop has the original black white and gray countertop with cool vintage pattern. Countertop is in good condition. ,Countertop in rear bedroom area is the same as the kitchen and it’s in good condition.
Floor. Floor is solid in most walking areas except for the bathroom and the hall right outside the bathroom which is spongy. There are also some small soft spots in the floor next to the walls in the living room and bedroom area.
Floor covering. Has original tile in living room area and rear bedroom area which is in poor condition . Newer linoleum has been added in the kitchen and dining area but is in poor condition also.
Table. Yes. Has the original booth style table the Formica on the table matches the kitchen sink and is in decent shape but needs re-glued to plywood base. Has the original dinette booths with the original lime colored vinyl. There are some holes and tears so they should be reupholstered.
Unit sleeps. Currently there are no beds in this trailer but there is room for up to six people to sleep.
Walls. Has the original birch walls and ceiling . Most of the birch is in good shape but there are some areas mainly under the windows that will need replaced. We do offer ¼” birch on our parts e-store.
RUNNING GEAR
Has the original running gear with the exception of newer tires and wheels. Wheel bearings were inspected and repacked by the transporter and I believe some brake springs were also replaced.
Axles and springs. Has the original axles with leaf spring suspension. Has surface rust but everything appears to be good and solid.
Dry weight. 8600#
Hitch ball height. Approximately 19 inches.
Safety chains. No.
Hitch weight. Approx. 1032#
Hitch ball size. 2-5/16 inch.
Hubcaps. No.
Spare tire. No.
Tire condition. Tires are approximately five years old. They do have some minor weather checking. Tires are 7:50 x 16 LT eight ply bias tires mounted on newer white spoke wheels with six lugs on 5 1/2 inch bolt circle.
FURNISHINGS
Bed/mattress. No.
Couch. No.
Curtains. There are curtains on the front window but they are in poor condition needing replaced.
ELECTRICAL
Has the original electrical system with six automatic reset circuit breakers. All electrical outlets and lights are in working condition. Entire electrical system and appliances should be check by a certified expert before use.
110 V lights. Yes. All Original and in working condition. The fabric that was on the front lights in the living room is shot and needs replaced.
12 V lights. No.
Brakes. Yes. Has electric brakes on both axles which are in working condition but are not currently hooked up. These could easily be hooked up for towing.
Breakaway switch. No.
Converter. No. I
nterior fans. Yes. Has a fan over range top, above oven and in bathroom but all are untested.
Plug for exterior lights. Yes. Has 4 prong flat plug like most boat trailer use.
Porch light. Yes. Has the original bell type porch light which is untested.
RV battery. No.
LP SYSTEM
Most of the original LP system is missing which is no big deal because most of these items should be replaced anyway for safety reasons. Entire LP system and appliances should be checked by a certified expert before use.
Automatic changeover. No.
Furnace. Yes. Has the original furnace which is a Coleman brand and runs on fuel oil. Furnace is untested.
Gas bottles. No.
Gas lights. No.
Gas regulator. No.
Range oven. Yes. Has a four burner range top which is a Pre-way brand which is complete with all grates and knobs. Has the original Preway brand wall oven which is complete with clock, knobs and racks. Oven and stove are untested.
Refrigerator. Yes. Has the original Frigidaire brand refrigerator. It appears to be mostly complete but is very dirty on the inside. We turned the refrigerator on but it would kick off almost immediately, so it will need work.
Water heater. Yes. Has the original Payne brand electric water heater which is untested. 7 gallons.
PLUMBING
Has the original plumbing with copper freshwater lines and copper and brass drains. I did a visual inspection and all lines are hooked up and I did not see any cracked waterlines. The system was not tested with water. Plumbing system and all appliances should be checked by certified expert before use.
Air pump. No.
Freshwater tank. No.
Kitchen sink. Yes. Has the original 2 bowl kitchen sink which is in good condition. The porcelain does have two very small chips.
Lavatory. Yes. Has the original lavatory which appears to be in good shape. Does have one small chip in the porcelain and rust stains around the drain.
Sewer holding tank. No.
Shower. Yes. Has a tub shower combo. Original shower walls are showing wear. Does still have the original Hi-Low faucet which service as a shower or a tub faucet.
Toilet. Yes. Has the original Mansfield brand toilet however the tank is cracked. I may have an original Mansfield tank in my parts stash.
Tub. Yes. Has the original 28 inch x 42 inch tub. Porcelain is in good shape but there are rust stains around the drain.
Waste holding tank. No.
Water intake valve. Yes.
Water pump. No.
SPECIAL
This trailer needs a good cleaning but the exterior is in very nice shape and the interior is very original and intact. This would be a great trailer to park at the lake or river as a weekend getaway or could be used as a primary home if you are wanting to downsize.
OTHER
Air-conditioning. Yes. Has a old, probably original Duo-therm brand air conditioner which is untested.
