EXTERIOR
The exterior of this vintage Spartan is very original, complete, and intact. It is built like an airplane with riveted construction for long life and durability. It has aircraft grade aluminum that can be polished up to a mirror like shine.
Frame and A-frame. Frame has surface rust but everything appears to be good and solid in all areas assessable for inspection. The A-frame does have some rust damage on the driver side bottom A-frame rail. We have added a quarter inch steel angle to reinforce this area.
Dents scratches and damage. There are only very minor dents, dings and flaws on this trailer. Overall, the trailer has a nice straight dent, free exterior skin.
Entry door front. Has the original aluminum entry door which is in very good condition. Has the original Bargman L-66 lock which is in working condition but we have no keys. It still has the interior vinyl cover for the door, which is in poor shape, but works great for a pattern. Door has original seals, which probably should be replaced.
Entry door rear. Has a brand new reproduction custom built aluminum door which was built like the original door but better. It has the original Bargman L-66 lock which is in good working condition but it has no keys. Any good locksmith can make new keys for it. Door has all new seals.
Screen doors. Has both original aluminum screen doors which are in decent condition. Steps. Has both of the original slide out steps which are in working condition.
Steps. Has both of the original slide out steps which are in good working order.
Front hoist. Has the original front hoist which is in working condition.
Hitch coupler. Has the original cast-iron Marvel brand hitch coupler which is in working condition.
Roof and Vents. Roof appears to be in good condition with no obvious damage. This trailer was under a shelter for many years. There is no tar or caulking on the roof which in my opinion is a good thing. Has all of the original vents with the exception of the furnace and water heater vents are missing. These vents have been covered to keep water out.
Exterior lights. Has all four of the original beehive style marker lights with steel bezels and glass lenses. All glass lenses appear to be in good condition. Has the original tail lights with steel bases and plastic lenses. These are showing wear. Has the original license plate light and bracket which has surface rest. None of the original lights were tested. Temporary tow lights will be needed to tow the trailer home safely.
Underbelly. Has the original aluminum underbelly which has typical oxidation but overall is in pretty good condition. There are some very small corrosion holes. Windows. Has all the original windows. All windows appear to be complete with hardware and screens and there are storm windows for all the large non-opening picture windows. The front curved plexiglass windows are in good shape with no cracks, but they do have some surface scratching from cleaning.
Windows. Has all the original aluminum windows which crank open and in good shape. All these windows are complete with all hardware and screens. All 3 of the picture windows have storm windows. The front 2 curved plexiglass windows are in good shape with only minor scuffing from wear. There is no missing, damaged or cracked glass. All window seals are original and should probably be replaced.
INTERIOR
The interior is mostly original with the exception of missing the original appliances. This is a one bedroom model, which has the bedroom in the rear and a large living room/dining room area in the front. The interior of this trailer will need a major cleaning, it is very dirty.
Cabinet and closet doors. Original birch in decent condition.
Hardware. Original
Countertops. Has the original countertops with matching backsplash, which is sort of a gray and white burlap pattern. Countertops do show some wear from use
Floor. Floor is solid in most walking areas. There is a soft spot inside the rear door and the kitchen area has been covered with plywood and particleboard.
Floor covering. Has carpet or linoleum and all is in poor condition.
Table. No, but there is plenty of room for a free-standing table and chairs.
Unit sleeps. There are no beds in the trailer, but there is room for at least six to sleep. Walls. Has the original birch paneling on the walls and ceiling, most of the birch panel is in good condition but there are some panels mainly underneath the windows that do have some water damage.
RUNNING GEAR
Has the original 4 inch dropped axle with leaf spring suspension. We towed this trailer approximately 200 miles with no issues, however, I would suggest that the wheel bearings be inspected and repacked before any longer trip. We can do that here for an additional charge.
Axle-Springs. Has surface rust but everything appears to be good and solid.
Dry weight. 8404#
Hitch ball height. Approximately 20 inches.
Safety chains. No.
Hitch Weight. Approx. 1000#
Hitch ball size. 2-5/16”
Hubcaps. No.
Spare tire. No.
Tire condition. Has four brand new ST 225/75R15 load range E radial trailer tires mounted on new 15 inch silver mod wheels with six lugs on 5 1/2 inch bolt circle.
FURNISHINGS
There are no beds, couches or curtains in this trailer.
ELECTRICAL
Has the original circuit breaker box with four automatic reset circuit breakers. We hooked up a temporary power supply and all of the lights worked except one fluorescent light above the kitchen counter. Most of the outlets did work also. Entire electrical system should be checked by a certified expert before use.
110 V lights. Yes, original and in working condition.
12 V lights. No.
Brakes. The trailer does have electric brakes on both axles, but they are untested. We can test and get the brakes working for an additional charge.
Interior fans. Yes, has three interior fans, 2 currently do not work and 1 does.
Plug for exterior lights. No
Porch light. Yes. Untested
LP SYSTEM
Most of the original LP system is missing, however, most of these items should be replaced for safety reasons anyway.
Entire LP system and appliances should be checked by a certified expert before use.
Furnace. No.
Gas bottles. No.
Gas regulator. No.
Range/oven. No.
Refrigerator. Has a 110 volt refrigerator, but it is not original and not working.
Water heater. There is an old gas water heater in there, but looks like junk to me.
PLUMBING
Has the original plumbing with copper drains and copper lines. I did a visual inspection and did find some of the fresh water lines were cracked. So plan on doing some plumbing repairs.
Plumbing system and all appliances should be checked by certified expert before use.
Freshwater tank. No.
Sink. Yes. Has the original two bowl kitchen sink. Porcelain has been touched up in a couple of areas.
Lavatory sink. Yes, has the original sink which is in decent condition. Some of the porcelain has been touched up.
Sewer holding tank. No.
Shower. Yes. Has a tub shower combo.
Toilet. Yes. Has the original Mansfield brand toilet which is untested.
Tub. Yes has the original 31“ x 60“ bathtub. Porcelain does have a couple of small quarter inch chips.
Waste holding tank. No.
Water intake valve. Yes.
SPECIAL
This vintage Spartan has lots of room and lots of possibilities. It would make a great vacation home parked on a lake or river or could be a primary home for those who want to downscale. It also has possibilities for a commercial application.
Air condition. No.
Microwave. No.
