EXTERIOR
The exterior of this trailer is very original and very straight. It has all the original windows, doors and vents which all appear to be in decent condition. This trailer is built like an airplane with riveted construction for a long life and durability. The exterior could use a good cleaning. It was too cold here in January to clean the exterior like we usually do.
Frame. Frame and A-frame do you have some surface rust but everything looks good and solid in all areas accessible for inspection.
Dents, scratches and damage. There are two patches on the front of the unit and a patch at the top drivers side rear. There are some small dents and dings otherwise but overall the exterior is in pretty good shape. The exterior of the trailer needs a good cleaning to get everything looking uniform.
Entry doors (front & rear). Has the original aluminum entry doors which have some very small dents but otherwise are in very good condition. They have the original Art Deco style Bargman brand L- 66 1-A locks which are in working condition but we have no keys. We do have new cylinder with keys available on our website. They have the original seals which should probably be replaced. Contact paper has been put on interior of doors.
Screen doors. Yes, has the original aluminum screen doors which are in good condition.
Steps. Has both of the original sliding steps at front and rear door which are in working condition.
Front hoist. Has the original front hoist which is in working condition.
Hitch coupler. Has the original hitch coupler which is in working condition.
Roof and Vents. Has the original cambered roof with riveted construction. A cambered roof is much better than a flat roof because it sheds water better and can hold up to heavier snow loads in winter climates. There is a dent across the rear of the roof. We sealed this area with Polar Seal to prevent it from leaking. The rest of the roof looks to be in good condition however it is very dirty.
Exterior lights. Has all four of the original beehive style marker lights with glass lenses and steel bases. The steel bases do have surface rust. Has the original Strat-O-Lite brand tail lights which have rusty bases. Has the original license plate light and bracket which has surface rust. Temporary tow lights have been added to the rear of the trailer so that it can be towed home safely.
Underbelly. Has the original aluminum underbelly. It has a few small holes but overall is in very good condition.
Windows. Has the original curved plexiglass windows in the front. These are popping out of the seals which are old, so the seals should be replaced. These windows have some minor scuffing from age but no cracks. The rear window has solid glass and is non-opening. All of the other windows are original and in good condition but 2 have cracks in the glass. These windows all have the operators and the safety latches but some of the knobs are missing for the safety latches. All of the opening windows do have screens. All windows have old seals and should be replaced.
INTERIOR
This is a two bedroom model which is very popular. The interior is mostly original and in good condition. There some very minor water stains on some of the birch paneling.
Cabinet and closet doors. Has the original birch cabinet and closet doors which are in good condition. A few of the cabinet doors have chipped veneer at the bottom.
Catches. Original.
Countertops. Kitchen has the original countertops with matching backsplash. Countertops are an aqua color with vintage pattern. There are some light stains on the kitchen countertops. Countertops in the middle bedroom and bathroom are original and in decent condition.
Floor. Floor is solid throughout.
Floor covering. Has linoleum and kitchen and bathroom and carpet throughout the rest of the trailer. Floor coverings are in fair condition.
Table. No, but there is a dining area opposite the kitchen so there is plenty of room for a small table.
Unit sleeps. Currently only one bed in this trailer but there is room for up to six persons to sleep.
Walls. Has birch paneling on walls and ceiling. There are some small water stains on birch paneling but overall the paneling is in nice condition.
RUNNING GEAR
Has the original running gear with the exception of brand new tires and wheels. Wheel bearings have been inspected and repacked. We towed this trailer over 600 miles with no problems. Axles and springs. Has the original axles with leaf spring suspension. These have surface rust but everything appears to be good and solid.
Dry weight. 8440#.
Hitch ball height. Approximately 20 inches.
Safety chains. No.
Hitch weight. Approximately 1000 pounds.
Hitch ball size 2 -5/16 inch.
Hubcaps. No.
Spare tire. No.
Tire condition. Has four brand new 7:50 x 16 LT 10 ply tires mounted on new silver mod non-split rims with six lugs on 5 1/2 inch bolt circle.
FURNISHINGS
Most of the freestanding furnishings are missing from this trailer. Beds. There are no beds in this trailer but the middle bedroom still has the bed base which is 77 inches long by 44 inches wide.
Couch. No.
Curtains. No.
ELECTRICAL
Has the original electrical system. Breaker box has 4 automatic reset circuit breakers. Power supply cord will need a new 30 amp plug. We temporarily hooked up power to the trailer to test the lights and outlets. Entire electrical system and appliances should be check by a certified expert before use. 110 V lights. Yes. Lights are original and all are in working condition.
12 V lights. No.
Brakes. Yes. Has electric brakes on both axles which are in working condition.
Breakaway switch. Yes. Has brand new Tekonsha brand breakaway kit with battery.
Converter. No.
Interior fans. Yes. Has a fan above the stove which is in working condition and a fan in the bathroom which is not currently working.
Plug for exterior lights. Yes. Has a brand new seven way plug. This is the same plug that most current RVs.
Porch light. Yes. Has a porch light which is in working condition but is not original.
RV battery. No.
LP SYSTEM
Has the original LP tank holder which is set up for two tanks but most of the rest the of the original LP system is missing. Most the stuff should be replaced anyway for safety reasons. Entire LP system and appliances should be checked by a certified expert before use.
Automatic changeover. No.
Furnace. Yes. Has the original International brand furnace which I believe is LP gas but has not been tested.
Gas bottles. No.
Gas lights. No.
Gas regulator. No.
Range/Oven. Yes. Has a 30 inch brown brand stove with four burners on top and oven below. Stove is complete with all knobs grates and shelves but is untested.
Refrigerator. No.
Water heater. Yes. Has a LP gas water heater which is 20 gallons but is untested.
PLUMBING
Has the original plumbing with copper drains and copper supply lines. I did find one cracked waterline and several are disconnected so plan on doing some plumbing.
Air pump. No.
Freshwater tank. No.
Kitchen sink. Yes. Has the original 2 bowl kitchen sink which has some rust stains and several areas that have had the porcelain touched up.
Lavatory. Yes. Has the original pink lavatory but it is not in very good shape and should probably be replaced.
Sewer holding tank. No.
Shower. Yes. Has a tub shower combo.
Toilet. Yes. Looks like it has the original pink tank and lid but has had a newer white base. Toilet is untested.
Tub. Yes has the original pink tub which is 28 x 41 there is one chip in the porcelain.
Waste holding tank. No.
Water intake valve. Yes.
Water pump. No.
SPECIAL
This vintage Spartan has a very cool exterior with the fluted aluminum on the bottom half and the smooth aluminum on the upper half. This could be used as a large camper as most campgrounds will accept 40’ trailers. It would also make a nice guest house, vacation home or even super cool tiny home which can actually be moved around.
